Mental illness is an awful disease. Patients and their families are not only victimized by the symptoms, they must bear the results of the stigma that society still assigns it. It doesn't have to be this way.
The Carey Risman Memorial Fund was created to help shine a spotlight on the realities of living with mental illness and eventually remove the horrible stigma society attaches to the disease. The fund benefits The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), whose goal is to proactively diagnose and treat the early stages of mental illness, as well as participate actively in research and development that will help us better understand the nature and causes of these debilitating diseases.
