This year, I've decided to put my money where my feet are.
I am happy to say that I have finally found a passion that gets me excited every day—that is, improving mental health care, how it is accessed, and how it is talked about in our society.
Earlier this year I started www.firstsession.co to help people connect with a therapist in a more convienent, and easy way. But there is lots more to be done.
As someone who has battled depression in the past, and with mental health challenges running in my family, this is something close to home. I also truly beleive that, if you want to do good in this world, you're not in a great position to do so until you have looked after yourself.
That is why I am holding my own fundraiser to support CAMH, Canada's leading mental health hospital. This will coincide with the Toronto Waterfront Half-Marathon, which I will be running on October 20.
Did you know that 1 in 5 Canadians experience mental illness in any given year?
And yet many don't consider it a real health issue.
With your support, we can change attitudes, behaviours and culture. We can drive action and make a difference. We can shape a world where mental illness is seen in the same light as every other illness, and all people receive the level of care they need and deserve. A world where Mental Health is Health.
Please donate today and help me reach my fundraising goal.
Together we can break down stigma, fund innovative research, and provide access to new and promising treatments for people living with mental illness.
