EN:
As some of you might know, we lost my brother Marcelo to suicide in 2018. He was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in his early 20's and struggled with this mental illness until the age of 37, when he couldn't find ways to cope with it anymore.
We knew the name of the illness, but very little about it. Now I know that substance abuse, and other unbalances like eating disorders, are often consequences of some type of mental illness.
This life experience made me think of mental health from a different perspective. It made me realize how much we, as a society, underestimate mental illness and reinforce its stigma by avoiding this conversation.
I invite you, my friend and family members, to THINK about it, and TALK to those around you, that might be struggling with anxiety, depression or any other mental illness, IN SILENT.
It is not a comfortable conversation, but a NECESSARY one.
It is OK to be vulnerable, to share feelings, thoughts and offer/ask for HELP.
TALKING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH AND SUICIDE, SAVE LIVES.
So, to celebrate my 36th Birthday, I am holding my own fundraiser to support CAMH, Canada's leading mental health hospital.
With your support, we can change attitudes, behaviors, and culture.
Together we can break down stigma, fund innovative research, and provide access to new and promising treatments for people living with mental illness.
Please donate today and help me reach my fundraising goal.
Thank you for THINKING, TALKING and SUPPORTING Mental health!
With all my love,
Rapha.

PT:
Rapha.
