Dear Family and Friends
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is the leading mental health hospital in Canada. While 1 in 5 Canadians experience mental illness in any given year, many still do not consider it to be a significant health issue.
I have been working at CAMH for the past two years, taking care of the physical health of individuals in the ER and on the inpatient wards. Following the recent completion of my Masters in Adolescent Health, I started working specifically on the inpatient adolescent unit. Every day I appreciate the significance that mental health has on our social, emotional, and physical well-being, particularly in such a vulnerable population. Gaining the trust of these individuals, becoming their confidant, and providing appropriate medical care is truly a humbling experience, and I feel honoured to be part of a group of healthcare professionals who are deeply devoted and passionate towards helping youth who may otherwise have no one.
With your support, we can change attitudes, behaviours and culture. We can break down stigma, fund innovative research, and provide access to new and promising treatments for people living with mental illness. We can shape a world where mental illness is seen in the same light as every other illness, and all people receive the level of care they need and deserve. We can help to create a world where Mental Health is Health.
Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness
