From now until Friday, May 10th, I’m showcasing the creative passions within me, alongside those of many of my elementary students, in support of mental health!
Lucy and Maayaa is a musical that I produced and wrote the music for to help children suffering with mental health, in addition to helping those children who have neurodiversities and struggle to fit in.
A cast of many of my elementary students have performed Lucy and Maayaa three times, while I and my script co-writer made edits to each version, based on the children’s needs and requests.
It is a vulnerable and honest outreach to children and adults suffering in kind. Many of the cast members are challenged by mental health and neurodiversities themselves, so this musical hits a personal tone for them.
“Lucy and Maayaa – The Musical does a wonderful job of articulating the inner challenges faced by children and how children can overcome these challenges by viewing them from a different viewpoint – turning negatives into positives. It also encourages the audience to think about everyday experiences from another perspective.
“Lucy and Maayaa – The Musical is an encouraging tale for children who feel like they don’t fit in – showing them that everyone’s differences is what makes the world a better place.” - The Child Development Institute, TO
CAMH One Brave Night is a chance to share fragments of myself and of my students with the world for a great cause. I am excited to express my passion and creativity, so we can inspire hope for the one in five Canadians who experience mental illness every year.
