The reason I am raising awareness for mental health is because how humans think and behave has always fascinated me. It is also because I love helping people and finding out about what's going on in their minds. It is also because recently (!) I have found out that I have been dealing with some sort of on-and-off intense anxiety since childhood ("What???? My anxiety levels were higher than normal and I should have seen a therapist long ago and I didn't know??? :D" hm.. actually I tried going a few times and it just took me a long time to find a great therapist!!).
We are all human and we have a lot going on in our bodies and minds. If we take care of our body by going to see a physiotherapist when we sprain an ankle, it is all good. We can tell people about our experiences and give advice about how not to sprain an ankle. :D
But the problems we have in our minds, is not something we can talk about easily.
There are unspoken rules about how we should think and feel. These are the same rules that tell us it is weak to feel sad and to cry. The stigma, hinders our path of growth. Because we don't talk about these problems, people who are experiencing them, don't know how to seek help.
If we have had a hard breakup from which we are struggling, if our heart pounds out of the anxiety of being invited to a social gathering, if we have to deal with a lot of stress on a daily basis, if we constantly think about our mistakes and failures and the things we do wrong and the things we could be doing right, if we get angry or upset with people a lot, if we don't communicate well, if we have body image issues, if we hate ourselves, ...
If we have any of the above, we seldom think to go see a psychotherapist or a counsellor until the pain is too large.
We are human, with our weaknesses and strengths and it is more than okay to talk to someone about the things you are struggling with. A good therapist will help you understand yourself and the world around you better. A great therapist will help you understand and lesson your pain, learn a ton of things and help you live a fuller life. You will experience the world in ways that you didn't think imaginable - and this part, is massively cool! :)
I am going to do Azerbaijani Dance as part of this event. Need to brush up on my skills and practice a choreography. ;) So far, some of my friends are joining me in doing Azerbaijani and Kurdish dance. Shahin, my bro, will also be playing Violin or Santoor. My mum will be making some snacks (Salad Olovie).
If you care about this cause, chip in whatever you can afford and help my fundraising campaign! I really appreciated this!
