I’m stepping up to defeat mental illness. By participating in the CAMH One Brave Night for Mental Health challenge. As you all have seen spreading awareness and helping to break down the stigma of Mental Health is something I am passionate about. By sharing my own personal journey openly and trying to help to inspire others struggling to open up and talk about their personal journeys as well. Mental illness effects everyone, not just the one with the condition.
The mental health side of the medical field is severely underfunded. I believe if we are able to, increasing the funding for Mental Health anyway we can will create such a huge difference for any of those suffering to be able to afford the help they deserve to have. It costs a minimum of $160.00 an hour to be able to talk to a therapist, psychologist or psychotherapist. Something like being able to afford to talk to a professional in that field can be more affective then just the medications given to help manage the illness’ symptoms. The only way to get notice of how bad we are in need of increased funding in that field is to start to take away the stigma of mental health together to be able to stand up and take a stand to create a much needed change, not just in the ability to openly talk about mental health, but to make notice of how much needs to change.
I plan to take part in this event every year moving forward to help inspire others and to completely defeat the stigma surrounding Mental Health. If you are able, any little bit helps. I invite others to take this challenge with me, and invite anyone who wants to, to join my team as well.

Together we can make the change.
