I’m stepping up to defeat mental illness!
Will you support my #OneBraveNight?
People living with mental illness say nights are the hardest for them. It’s when they feel most alone and need hope the most. CAMH One Brave Night for Mental Health™ is a Canada-wide challenge to inspire hope for the one in five Canadians who experience mental illness in any given year.
On Friday 6 April, 2018, my team (Friends of Lemmy) is taking on the challenge of spending the entire night (7 pm to 7 am) playing the hilarious game 'Cards Against Humanity.'
We chose this challenge because when people experience mental illness, laughter becomes very hard to find. Mental illness takes people into darkness - our challenge hopes to fill the darkness with laughter.
Mental health is a very personal cause for me. For more than 5 years I've been managing multiple diagnoses and realistically had been struggling long before that. I’ve lived those sleepless nights and thankfully have had amazing supports by my side through the worst of times. My journey has been long, difficult, and often times confusing but it has made me a compassionate advocate for mental wellness. A major turning point in my recovery has been participating in peer groups and utilizing resources such as those funded by CAMH. This type of programming is essential to getting better and thriving in spite of a diagnosis. I would not be where I am today without the unconditional love and support from family and friends, the team of professionals I work with, and my brave peers.
We're all touched by mental health, and I've noticed when I share my stories, others do too. It’s not an easy conversation, but it is an important one. I took the #OneBraveNight challenge because I want to inspire hope for people living with mental illness now. By making a donation to my One Brave Night, you are helping CAMH improve access to care, conduct research to find better treatments, and build more spaces for healing.
Please add some purple unicorn magic and donate generously and help me surpass my goal.
