I’m stepping up to defeat mental illness!
As someone who struggles with their own mental health issues, this is a cause I hold close to my heart.
The CAMH One Brave Night for Mental Health challenge is a Canada-wide challenge to inspire hope for Canadians living with mental illness.
I took the #OneBraveNight challenge because I want to inspire hope for people living with mental illness now – and to defeat mental illness. By making a donation to my One Brave Night, you are helping CAMH improve access to care, conduct research to find better treatments, and build more spaces for healing.
Battling with your brain on a daily basis is honestly one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do,and can feel like one of the loneliest experiences you've ever gone through. Reaching out for support from family, friends, and professionals can be just as difficult. The waiting lists to get into programs can be anywhere from 6-12months, which can make getting the help you need feel impossible.
I've been struggling with depression, anxiety, and an eating disorder for about 7years now. I've had countless counsellors and have only really felt a good connection with one. I've waited almost a year to get into an eating disorder program, and have waited in emergency at a hospital for close to 12hours waiting for a crisis team to come assess me after I tried to take my life. I've been called lazy, crazy, and an attention seeker because of my mental illnesses.
I dream of a world where future generations can get the support and help they need when they need them, without these long waiting lists stopping them from doing so. A world where mental illness isn't made as something you should be ashamed of! Because, we are all the same, no matter if we have a chemical imbalance in our brains or not.
If you haven't struggled with your mental health, I'm sure you know someone who has.
So, I'm asking you to please support me, and make even a small donation to my One Brave Night. Because, I would like to help end this stigma around mental illness.
