That's right, I’m fundraising in support of mental health and CAMH's One Brave Night!
Did you know that one in five Canadians experience mental illness in any given year? Or that 70% of mental health challenges start during childhood and adolescence? And yet many still don't consider it a real "health" issue.
My struggle with mental health is a common one and like many, I am not the most forthcoming about it; I've always been a shy person, only opening up to people once I reach a certain level of comfort and familiarity around them (you may know me as "hey, it's that guy with the headphones.")
Over the years the shyness turned to social anxiety, and this lead to panic attacks and depression. When I met my partner Emma she helped me gain the confidence to reach out to my doctor about this. I was prescribed anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication, which help me immensely.
For many who struggle, it's not nearly as easy as reaching out to a doctor and finding the right medication - it can be an incredibly hard and long road.
In light of this, please help me break down stigma, fund innovative research, and provide access to new and promising treatments for people living with mental illness by donating to help me reach my fundraising goal for CAMH's #OneBraveNight event if you can.
