I'm Miri, a communications manager, lover of cooking, skiing and puppies, and former patient at CAMH.
After experiencing debilitating panic attacks and anxiety during my undergrad degree, I checked myself into the Centre for Mental Health and Addiction desperate for help. I was incredibly lucky to receive access to an incredible psychiatrist who changed my life.
Now, I’m determined to share my story to fight the stigma and encourage other young professionals to open up and ask for help. Last year I joined CAMH Engage (www.camhengage.com), a team of young professionals also committed to breaking down stigma and funding better mental health care for Canadians.
This year, I'm asking you to support me as I spend Friday, April 6 completing a safeTALK training course that will equip me to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources.
I’ve lost friends, former students and family members to suicide, as far too many of us have. I hope that by completing this training (and encouraging others to do the same!), we may be able to save lives.
Your support means so much – to me, and to the many people who will get access to quality mental health care thanks to your donation.
