....I often can't. A lot of people can't.
You can't 'see' mental illness in the same way you can see a broken arm, a heart attack, cancer. Some can't identify with it either - in the same way that you can't 'see' a migraine, but you have a sense about what that feels like.
I've never been able to wrap my head around why mental illness gets a bad wrap, or why society treats it so differently - so negatively - in comparison to any other ailment.
For that reason, I'm stepping up. This is my way of working to change the way we recognize and treat people with mental illness and addiction; to change it so that we work toward spreading awareness and grinding the stigma about an illness that affects all of us deep down into the ground.
