2019 One Brave Night for Mental Health

Dark Horse Designs

On Friday, May 10th, our team will be making macrame hemp bracelets ALL NIGHT LONG in support of mental health!

CAMH One Brave Night is a chance to share a piece of myself with the world for a great cause. I am excited to express my passion and creativity, so we can inspire hope for the one in five Canadians who experience mental illness every year. Each year I donate my time and my craft in support of CAMH because I, like so many others, are affected by mental health issues and believe that by shining a light we can help to end the stigma surrounding them.

I have always been a creative person and discovered that I loved to make things at a very early age - I would lose myself in making - everything from paper crafts to sewing and cross-stitching to wood-working and everything in between! I found a passion for stones and gems and jewellery-making came naturally. When making things I can escape in my mind and really lose myself in the flow of the work. Everything else disappears.

Macrame hemp bracelets were my first endeavour into jewellery-making when I started as a kid and they continue to be a favourite item at summer festivals. For me they represent a connection to my roots and remind me where I started. When I lose sight of my goals or get down on myself for whatever reason, I think back to that time when I wanted the things that I have now. I am reminded of the work it took to get where I am and how far I really have come (both in my jewellery-making and my mental health journey).

It sounds funny, but a little thing like that can help put things into perspective - a practice in mindfulness and gratitude with every knot tied. one. at. a. time.

In addition to funds raised by donation, the money earned from the sale of the bracelets throughout the year will also be donated to CAMH at next year's One Brave Night campaign.

Please donate today and help me reach my fundraising goal.

Together we will break down stigma, fund innovative research, and provide access to new and promising treatments for people living with mental illness!
