My whole life I have watched my parents advocate for those struggling with mental health. My mother worked in the mental health system - including CAMH - for more than 2 decades, my dad doing the same and even using his own experience to help others. It is a cause that has always been at the forefront of our family. I've been faced with my own mental health struggles since my mom died and I know that it is because of the support and knowledge my mom left me that I've been able to build a life.
My parents always said just as cancer is no longer a death sentence, mental illness is no longer a life sentence. And every dollar raised is a step towards helping someone get their life back. CAMH is an important resource in our community and a touchstone for many in their journey with mental health, something my mom recognized and we want to celebrate.
It's been nearly 10 years since my mom's passing and it's time to do something to honour her legacy. Together as a family we've decided to continue her work by raising funds to help the end stigma and struggles of those facing mental illness. On May 1, 2022 we'll be doing a 5km and 10km walk at Horseshoe Resort. Whether you want to participate, donate, share or join us on that Sunday - any way you are involved will be appreciated and a way to support CAMH and honour my mom.
